How to develop your grip
If you think that only bodybuilders can develop strong grip then you should change your opinion. It is not necessary to do heavy exercise to develop a grip. Instead, you can have a firm and strong grip by simply practicing different types of grip exercises regularly. If you will develop your grip then it might benefit you in both your professional and social life.
In professional world, a person's warm handshake with strong grip indicates his commitment and determination. With a good grip, you can also become expert in too many sporting activities like lawn tennis, baseball, badminton, ice hockey, golf, etc. Similarly, if you want to become a guitarist or violinist then your music teacher will first tell you how to hold the instrument before playing. For this, you need to have proper grip.
Remember, when we speak of a grip, it suggests that the entire palm of a person should be firm. Hence, we will discuss on various grip developing methods from which you can pick the one that suits you well.
Gripper
If you spend a majority of time at office owing to hectic work schedules then you should buy a hand gripper. Hold it in one of your palms and try to bring its two handles closer. Do it for one minute. Then hold the gripper in the other palm and repeat the process. This completes one full step. You can go for at least three to five steps a day according to your convenience. Gradually, you can also increase the time from one minute to two or three in each step.
Isometric exercise
This grip development technique does not require any equipment and you can do it whenever you wish. In this form, your endurance will be tested as you would have to contract your muscles at optimum level and wait for sometimes at that state before relaxing.
Hold items with fingers tips and thumb
Use your finger tips and thumb to hold any item with less weight for a couple of minutes. Initially, you would drop the item within few seconds but gradually your grip will become firm. Thereafter, you can perform the same process by holding some more weighty items. You can start this method using small iron balls and later try holding iron plates with different weights. After sometimes, try to hold the items by keeping your arms fully stretched because such position requires more endurance and as a consequence you will have improved grip strength.
Hold bucketful of water in each hand
Usually, this method is adopted by people who practice martial arts. First, hold bucketful of water in each hand and then start walking for a couple of minutes. Repeat the process some three to four times a day. You can perform this method holding the items like dumbbells also.
Rock climbing or mountaineering
Your grip will become strong if you will join any adventurous club that trains rock climbing or mountaineering. Your instructors would tell you how to climb small rocks with the help of ropes. The more you will practice the better will be your grip.
Chin up
In this exercise, jump and hold horizontal bar and pull your body upwards till your chin comes at the level of the bar. Then, gradually lower your body till it hangs free again. At this moment, you might wish to land on the ground because of a weaker grip. But if you will practice it hard then in a month or two, you will develop a good grip that will help you to hang and lift your body for more number of times.
Hanging exercise
You can use the same horizontal bar to hang freely. Stay in the same position for sometimes till your grip allows you to do so. Do this at least five to ten times for better grip.
Join gymnastic classes
If you will join gymnastic classes, you would be asked to develop both strength and delicacy. You will discover that a majority of exercises in gymnastic are based on wrist movements that requires strong grip. More often, you would have to learn the art of holding your body in air either through different type of bars or merely by performing amazing acrobatics on the ground.
Join fitness club
If you think that along with strong grip, you should also possess a robust body then join some fitness club. There, you will not do heavy exercise to shape up your physique, but in the meantime, your fitness trainer would also help you in making your grip stronger through wrist and grip exercises.
Join yoga classes
In yoga, there are several methods in which your grip plays vital role maintaining your body balance. For this, your yoga instructor would impart you specific training through which your hands, wrists and the entire grip will become strong to do difficult yoga exercises.
